The start and finish will be in Kigali. Riders will first head East, up to Kayonza after which they turn North towards Nyagatare. Here we’ll leave the paved road and ride to Musanze over Byumba over hilly gravel roads. After reaching Gisenyi the legendary Congo Nile Trail will lead cyclists through a stunning decor. The climb out of Rusizi to the Nyungwe rainforest might be the toughest stretch of the race, but even after reaching Butare a new section of unpaved road will be a final big challenge before taking the Bugesera road back to the capital.
Route 2021 has some small changes (yes, it’s more gravel), and will be announced very soon!
The RaR Journey is based on this same route, but several shortcuts can be chosen, see the Journey page.
- 1.000 km
